Switchblade Sawyer

A pre-breakfast overgrowth trimming session finds the switchblade sawyer and his Corona switchblade (not spring-loaded, but very light and powerful for pruning) making quick work of overgrowth among cold-damaged crepe myrtles in the back yard fence corner.

It’s 76°F / 24° C and pretty comfortable at sunrise this morning, but it’ll be 102° F / 39° C by mid-afternoon.  Whew!

A number of Corona saw variants are available from Walmart, Amazon, and similar stores for several dollars up to a few tens of dollars.  They’re great for backpackers where it’s legal to cut dead tree limbs for campfire fuel.  They make very little noise, so they’re useable at the crack of dawn in communities whose noise ordinances won’t tolerate reciprocating electric saws at early hours.  They’ll enable you to cut branches that are just beyond the capabilities of pruning loppers.  Hang one on your garage tool wall, or carry one in your backpack
