Help Save the Planet
Here's a chance to actually do something to save the planet. The Climate Prediction Network needs your spare computer time to run its climate prediction models.
They have a world-wide network of computers that run the models and report back on the outcomes. The network effectively makes a computer system much bigger than the most powerful supercomputer.
If you'd like to participate, see
http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc/index.php
for more information.
Several similar projects such as SETI, the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence, use this computer sharing technique to vastly increase their computing capability through BOINC, the Berkeley Open Interface for Network Computing. (See references below.)
Put your computer to work for a good cause today!

BTW, if you'd like, I can give you a hand with the preferences setup for SETI and the Climate Prediction Network applications to keep them out of your way while you're actively working at your computer. --CLO
